On Your Doorstep
In the Ribble Valley, our quiet country lanes make exploration a
real pleasure and with country inns, market towns and plentiful historic
sites, you will have time to enjoy many an excursion. Here you can
relax in the fresh air, walk the hills, stroll along riverside paths
or explore fascinating villages. Historic Clitheroe with its 11th
century Norman Keep and a high street described as having the most
intresting shops for curios, antiques, clothing etc. of any town in
the UK. Whalley - A smaller Clitheroe with its historic Abbey. Visit
the village of Dunsop Bridge, officially identified as the centre
of the kingdom, drive through the unfenced Trough of Bowland with
crystal clear mountain streams and the fells reaching striaght up
from the narrow pass. Visit the Gisburn Forest which has numerous
laid out walks and cycle routes through the countryside all around
Stocks Reservoir which at any one time, offers 20 or 30 different
types of wildfowl and the surrounding woods offer other varied wildlife
and birds. If you are a little more adventuresome, Settle, the gateway
to the Yorkshire Dales, is only 15 miles distant along a road which
takes in some of the most beautiful countryside in Europe. Howarth
and Bronte country is a feasible days journey. Even the Lake
District can be easily reached by quick access to the M6. Visit Historic
Lancaster, for a day full of history and shopping. Just a short distance
is Longridge, which offers a good selection of shops and antique gallereis.
There are also many ancient churches well worth a visit. Why not take
a trip to Manchester and visit the Science Museum or take the our
round Manchester United's football ground. You could even visit the
Trafford Centre shopping complex. Manchester can easily be reached,in
approximately 1 hour by car or take the train from Whalley 15 minutes
away. |
